The Community Foundation Grey-Bruce had 100 thousand reasons to celebrate at their Annual General Meeting last month.
The foundation received a cheque for 100 thousand dollars from local philanthropist Eva Laflar on June 16th — putting total donations to the organization over the 5.7 million dollar mark.
Donations are held as endowed funds, and the earnings on those funds allowed the Community Foundation to hand out 117 thousand dollars to charities and groups in Grey Bruce this year.
Wendy Bachiu — the Community Foundation Grey-Bruce Administrator — says they were able to support 10 new groups this year, bringing their total to 75.
Groups receiving grants include the Children’s Aid Society, the local Men’s Program, the United Way of Bruce Grey and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Bachiu says there are now three funds operating under the Community Foundation’s umbrella…in Saugeen Shores, Grey Highlands and Owen Sound.
Also on hand at the AGM were three avid supporters of the Community foundation, former Owen Sound Mayor Ovid Jackson, Grey County Warden Arlene Wright and Lyle Love.
They helped get the Community Foundation off the ground back in 1994.
