All the coins are counted and it turns out the third annual Relay For Life at Saugeen Shores brought in over 116 thousand dollars.
It was held July 8th and 9th at Saugeen District Secondary School, and the local volunteer committee and the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society are very pleased with the results.
The three year total is now more than 450 thousand dollars.
Relay for Life is the Cancer Societys signature fundraiser and its unique in that its a 12-hour overnight event — symbolizing that cancer doesn’t sleep.
Fundraising Co-ordinator Brenda O’Neill says the money raised helps fund promising research, implement prevention programs, and provide local services to cancer patients and their families.
O’Neill says living in a rural area, the Societys transportation services and peer support programs are well-utilized by their clients.
