There is a group of people locally who are interested in purchasing the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club.
The President of the Board, Bob Nicol, confirms he has received numerous calls from potential investors.
And Nicol says one option that has been discussed is for someone to go to the Bank of Montreal and pay off the club’s 1.1 million dollar debt.
Nicol adds the person — or persons — would then pay another 300 to 400 thousand dollars to get the 91 year old golf club re-opened.
Under this scenario — Nicol says these business people would become the new financiers and they would not need to work with a receiver.
But he understands their motive would likely be to complete the purchase of the Stanley Thompson designed course.
The other option is to go into receivership and Nicol confirms the Bank of Montreal has notified the board that the paperwork has started to do just that.
Nicol says the different options change the complexion of the deal — but he says the priority is to re-open the golf course as soon as possible.
Nicol points out time is of the essence — Next Tuesday marks one week since any maintenance has been done on the golf course.
Nicol outlines in a perfect scenario — the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club would re-open for golfers next weekend.
