Two people safely escaped a house fire in Saugeen Shores.
The fire department was called around 4 AM Thursday to a home on Saugeen Beach Road, just south of Port Elgin.
The two homeowners were awakened to smoke and fire.
Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson tells us the fire was fully involved by the time they arrived on the scene.
Eagleson says they used a DSPA device to locate the source of the flames and they were able to extinguish the fire by 8 AM.
Eagleson says it was an aggressive fire because of the cedar used to build the home.
Damage the summer cottage home is pegged at almost 300 thousand dollars.
One of the firefighters was treated at the scene for what’s described as a very minor injury — and the two residents were treated for minor smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Eagleson says it’s not considered suspicious.
