Queens Park has come up with a plan to reimburse farmers who lose livestock to predators like coyotes.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch has been pushing for a universal bounty for coyotes, because the amount varies from county to county.
He has collected thousands of signatures on a petition.
Instead, the Liberals are staying away from the bounty idea, but will give farmers cash when they lose animals, under the new “Wildlife Damage Compensation program”.
The amount varies by animal and Murdoch says it covers predators like coyotes, bears and raccoons.
The Conservative MPP is glad that the province listened to his arguements about predators and the impact they have on farmers.
Although he was pushing for a big bounty, Murdoch says at least Queens Park has come up with something that will help farmers out and he has to give credit where credit is due.
Murdoch says anyone wanting more information on the compensation program should call OMAFRA to get details.
