There is a mumps vaccination clinic in Owen Sound today.
The clinic is being held from 8 AM till Noon and again from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM this afternoon at Georgian College.
Public Health Nurse Jody Kroeplin says the clinic is part of the provincial campaign to stop the spread of mumps.
You can get the mumps just by breathing in the virus through your mouth or nose.
Kroeplin says the symptoms are flu like — including fever and headache.
But she notes the mumps could lead to more serious complications — including encephalitis and meningitis.
Kroeplin says the vaccination campaign targets people born between 1970 and 1995.
Those people only needed one dose of the mumps vaccine — but the province recommended two doses starting in 1996.
All you have to do is bring your yellow immunization card to today’s clinic.
If you can’t make it today — Kroeplin notes you can also make an appointment through the health unit or see your family doctor.
