In the not to distant future the country mouse could be visiting the city mouse.
4-H clubs will be moving into urban areas in an effort to expand the organization.
The Canadian 4-H Council has launched a new program that will see the expansion of the clubs from most rural areas into cities and towns across the country.
Ken Lancastle of the 4-H Council says this program which is sponsored by RBC will offer grants of up to four thousand dollars to help groups set up a new 4-H club.
He says that there has been a decline in youth population in Rural Canada and by expanding into urban regions they hope to increase membership of the organization.
Lancastle does not believe it will be difficult to attract young people to join the group as many people cities already have some knowledge about what 4-H stands for.
He says they will be selling he 4-H concept to city youth thorough the internet, on their website and on their own facebook page.
Lancastle says 4-H will help provide urban youth with several different type of life skills that will prepare them for the future.
