OPSEU is calling on Ontario Health Minister David Caplan to investigate how the Grey Bruce health unit is being run.
President Warren “Smokey” Thomas was in Owen Sound yesterday rallying the troops.
Of the 51 OPSEU workers at the health unit last summer, some 17 were laid off shortly after a new contract was signed.
Thomas tells Bayshore Broadcasting news he will arrange a Town Hall style meeting in the next few weeks to focus attention on how the Unit is being run, and where it is spending money.
He will encourage Management from the Grey Bruce health unit to attend and defend the changes that are being made, both in clerical personnel and in threatened cuts in public health nurses.
The OPSEU president has been talking with the head of the Ontario Nurses Association, Linda Haslam-Stroud on a common front to fight the cuts in Owen Sound.
No date has been set for the Town Hall style meeting, and OPSEU hasn’t heard back from the Health Minister on a request for an investigation into the running of the Health unit.
