Senior Public Health Nurse with the Huron County Health Unit, Christina Taylor says the diagnosis in a young adult was made on the weekend.
Taylor says the patient is in their early 20s and shows the expected influenza symptoms including high fever, headache, body-aches and chest pain.
Taylor says the flu can present in a patient in a couple of different ways.
She says the Health Unit is seeing stomach-based symptoms involving vomiting and diarrhea as well as cold-type illnesses which include headache and general body-ache.
Taylor strongly advises that if you have influenza to take it easy.
Taylor says to get a lot of rest, drink fluids, eat healthy and exercise.
Taylor warns you especially against visiting long-term care facilities whose elderly residents are most at risk of contracting influenza.
The bottom-line of Taylor’s advice if you have the flu: stay home.
You can still get your flu shot, either through your family doctor or through the Huron County Health Unit at their office in Clinton.
