The Mayor of Arran-Elderslie says 2008 has been a good year for the municipality.
Ron Oswald highlights the new Paisley Medical Clinic as a place citizens of that community can be proud of.
He says a fair amount of construction work was also done in all five wards during the year.
Oswald says 2009 could be challenging because of the shape of the economy and the municipalities goal to keep taxes at a reasonable level.
Oswald says the municipality would like to go ahead with the major project to reconstruct Chesley’s main street, but funding is needed from the province.
He says they’ve been promised 1.3 million dollars from the federal government and believes the province should match that.
Oswald says with the combined funding, the project could possibly go ahead in 2009, but as the smallest municipality in Bruce County, Arran-Elderslie cannot afford to do the work on its own.
Oswald adds A.P. Crawford, the municipality’s new Chief Administrative Officer takes over on January 5.
The Mayor also wants to extend Season’s Greetings to all residents of Arran-Elderslie and hopes the municipality does a good job for ratepayers in 2009.
