Kincardine will be in front of the lens in a documentary film being made on
nuclear power.
Filmmaker Donna Zuckerbrot of Toronto-based Reel Time Images is heading up
the project.
She says with nuclear power experiencing a renaissance in Canada, she’s
interested in finding out what has changed in nuclear power and what its
future looks like.
Zuckerbrot says shooting will take place over the next eight months to a
year.
She says they’ve already toured the Bruce Power site and interviewed company
CEO Duncan Hawthorne.
Zuckerbrot says with new nuclear power plants being considered for areas of
Western Canada, she wants to examine the concerns of people in those places
about nuclear energy.
She wants to compare those views with those of people in Kincardine and the
surrounding area where nuclear power has been present for 40 years.
Zuckerbrot wasn’t anticipating she’d find many local people who have
concerns aboutn nuclear power being generated close to their community, but
her research has shown there are some.
But, she says there aren’t as many concerned people here as there are in
places where nuclear power plants could soon be built.
The film will eventually air on CBC-TV’s “The Nature of Things.”
