Barfoot says they are continuing efforts to get a new tenant into the old Zellers building and are working with Rio Can development to bring more businesses to the Galaxy centre.
Barfoot says in addition the Municipality this year will be setting up an economic development committee composed of members of council and ratepayers.
He says the goal of that group will be to focus entirely on bringing more commercial activity to not only the Sunset strip, but other areas of Georgian Bluffs.
Another objective this year, is to try and get every road in the Municipality paved and Barfoot says thanks to some additional provincial money in 2008 they were able to move much closer to that goal.
Barfoot also predicts continued improved relations between Georgian Bluffs and Owen Sound in the new year as well, which have been strained at times in the past.
He says the relationship with the city is improving and he and Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners are now planning a joint meeting of both councils for early in the new year to discuss issues of mutual interest.
Looking back on 2008, Barfoot admits the highlight of the year for him was the finalizing and passing of the Municipalities strategic plan which now provides a road map for future development in Georgian Bluffs.
