Galaxy Cinemas Owen Sound has something special coming Wednesday.
The Grey Bruce Youth Film Festival will screen 11 short films by students in grades 7 to 12 from around the area.
The event is free to attend. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., the first film starts at 5 p.m., and an awards show will follow the screenings.
Youth Services Specialist at the Owen Sound library Katie McLeish says the awards include best junior (Grades 7 to 9) film and best senior (Grades 10 to 12) film. Anyone who attends will also get a vote toward the people’s choice award.
Films shown this year include a call for environmental protection, an odyssey to find the Fountain of Youth, and a day in the life of a pencil and many more.
With all the work that goes into the short films, McLeish spoke about the importance of the event.
“It’s an inspiring way to show them that there are people out there that want to see your work,” says McLeish. “You have a unique voice that needs to be heard.”
The film festival is coordinated by the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library, with sponsorship and participation from Galaxy Cinemas, Richard Thomas Communications, Rogers TV Grey County, the Meaford International Film Festival, the Fabulous Festival of Fringe Film in Durham, and the public libraries of Bruce County, Grey Highlands, Hanover, Meaford, Southgate and West Grey.
