Grey Bruce health Unit Sexual Health expert Barb Schmidt says the dating scene has changed drasticly since the 1950 and 60’s when these folks were begriming relationships.
She says back then people only used condoms to prevent pregnancy and there was little knowledge or awareness or risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections.
Schmidt says today with on line dating, more divorced or widowed people, older adults need to be re educated about the hazards of the modern dating world.
She says the aging population really is not aware of such things like HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis and they need to understand ways to practice safe sex .
Schmidt says they are seeing more older adults visiting the Health Unit’s Sexual Health clinic to get information on how to protect themselves and their partners.
