The agency is getting some help from Transat to restore more than 20 nature reserves across the province including half a dozen in our neck of the woods from Durham to Tobermory.
Ontario Nature Science Manager Mark Carabetta says the project includes marked trails, maps and board walks to allow public access to the nature reserves while ensuring minimal impact on the environment.
Locally, Carabetta says there are several uncommon and rare species they’re trying to protect including the Massasauga rattle snake on the Bruce Peninsula and a Great Lakes coastal meadow marsh at Petral Point in Red Bay.
Carabetta says the reserves protect some of the most ecologically important habitats in Ontario.
