An Owen Sound woman is marking her Birthday with her common law husband behind bars.
Owen Sound police arrested a 53 year-old man Monday evening following a violent domestic assault.
Early Monday, the accused wanted his 45 year-old common law partner to take the day off work so they could celebrate her birthday.
When the victim refused, the accused became enraged. He struck the victim numerous times causing serious facial injuries.
The accused wouldn’t let the woman leave their west side apartment and threatened to kill her if she left.
Police say the woman managed to call police in the late afternoon after being confined to the apartment against her will throughout the day.
Members of the Owen Sound Police Service arrived and arrested the man at the apartment.
He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Forcible Confinement and Utter Death Threats.
The suspect is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
