The municipality hasn’t been able to get corporate or community groups interested in sponsoring a visit by the Pittsburgh-based American Wind Symphony– an orchestra that performs on a floating barge that sails around the world.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says unless partners can be found to cover the 30 thousand dollar cost, it’s unlikely the orchestra will visit Kincardine in 2009.
He says the budget will be tight for this year and the Wind Symphony’s conductor, Robert Boudreau, gave a short deadline to respond.
Kraemer plans to contact him to see if any extra time to plan is available.
Councillor Guy Anderson says no local group is leading the charge on the project.
Anderson says he isn’t against the idea if a good business plan for it could be made and the event wouldn’t run at too serious of a financial loss, but the time frame to make a decision is short.
Deputy Mayor Laura Haight says having the American Wind Symphony dock in Kincardine for a few days is a great idea, but 2009 is not the year to be spending money on the event.
Haight says she’d rather see the money go to other projects and facilities in the community.
