The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library will receive 25 thousand dollars in capital project funding for renovations to the Children and Youth Services Department.
City Council approved pre- budget funding Monday night because construction is scheduled to begin January 12th.
Councillor Peter Lemon says the makeover is an important project that needs to be dealt with right away.
The renovations are expected to last up to 10 weeks, with a reveal scheduled before March break.
Child and Youth Services Librarian, Nadia Danyluk says the makeover will focus on environmentally friendly options like energy efficient lighting and insulation.
Beginning January 5th, the children’s department will move to the library’s auditorium until construction is complete.
Chief Librarian Judy Armstrong says they are continuing to raise money for the Library Makeover Kid’s Edition fundraising campaign.
Armstrong adds they were happy to receive 5 thousand dollars from the Christmas fund broadcast — but is still looking for 25 thousand dollars in donations from the community.
She adds local businesses and families can contact the library to make a donation.
