More recycling is coming to Brockton now that the town has worked out a deal to use the nearly vacant MTO building just outside Walkerton.
Mayor Charlie Bagnato says the facility means the town no longer has to rent a huge truck on the weekends to store recycling material.
Mayor Bagnato says with the new storage facility they will be taking in everything from styrofoam to electronic waste, and mattresses.
He adds they are looking at expanding the number of hazardous waste days in Brockton … which is currently only 2 days a year.
Bagnato says some of the bigger stores like Wal mart are getting involved in the recycling effort.
Since they can’t send styrofoam to the landfill anymore, they are storing it and a company comes up and gets it when it picks up Brockton’s recycling materials.
Brockton will begin using the old MTO building on highway 9 just outside Walkerton, in the new year.
The town will be paying for heating and lighting the building, but will not own it.
