Help is on the way for people in Grey Bruce who want to kick the smoking habit.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is partnering with the Grey Bruce Health Unit and Keystone Child and Family Services to launch a special smoking study in this region.
The Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients study is the first of its kind in Canada and will evaluate the success of various types of smoking cessation and support programs available to people.
Lori Wilson is with Keystone Family services and says the centre also will provide people in the study with free nicotine replacement therapy aids and they will be monitored from time to time to track their effectiveness.
She says that counselling and support are vital to the success of any smoking cessation program and Keystone will be providing that over the long term for people in the study.
Wilson says the CAMH will be in Owen Sound in early December to meet with the people who will take part in the study.
She says however people have to register if they want to be involved and can do that by calling Keystone Family Services at 519-371-4773 ext. 121.
