The automakers are making their case on both sides of the border for billions of dollars in government funding.
86 per cent of the respondents to our recent internet news poll do not want our federal and provincial governments to offer a bailout package to the automakers.
Many people feel the automakers have a broken business model.
Others suggest the governments would then have to offer other businesses some funding to deal with the economic downturn.
Only 14 per cent of the respondents said the governments should offer billions to the automakers.
One person calls it a “necessary evil” by suggesting if the government doesn’t bailout the Big 3 — the economy would suffer more.
Others said they would agree to a bailout if there were conditions — such as salary freezes for the top company executives.
Another respondent said too many local plants rely on the automakers so a bailout package is necessary.
146 people responded to the two week online survey.
