Bayshore Broadcasting news contacted one of the Meaford residents, Frank Bassingthwaite at his hotel in Bangkok this morning.
He says they will go on a 3 hour bus-ride south of Bangkok to a regional airport tomorrow morning (Thursday in Thailand, 12 hours ahead of us), and they will fly on a charter flight with Bangkok Air to Hong Kong.
Bassingthwaite says they hope to back to Ontario either Friday or Saturday night.
Also stranded are Bassingthwaite’s wife Janet, fellow Meaford residents Don and Marigay Wilson and Ron and Carolyn Mills, and Kincardine residents John A. and Arla Dahmer.
They were supposed to leave last Wednesday but thousands of protestors took over two airports in Bangkok and did not allow any flights out for days.
The Amari Watergate Hotel where the group is staying is about an hour’s drive away from the scene of the trouble and Bassingthwaite says they are able to safely leave the hotel grounds.
Bassingthwaite says a member of their group is in daily contact with the Canadian Embassy officials, who worked on arranging a flight out of Thailand.
The Meaford and Kincardine residents were in a group of 82 on the tour.
Bassingthwaite says 4 people left Sunday and went by Van to Pukett where they were stuck until today waiting for a flight out, 34 others left Monday and the last 44 in the group are leaving tomorrow morning.
