Charlie Bagnato says it could be 5 or 10 years away, but he says the day is coming when cities and towns will tell the Premier they cannot afford to be policed anymore and something has to change.
Brockton is facing a 20% increase in the cost of OPP policing, another 400 thousand dollars.
Most of the increase is blamed on the formula used to determine the cost.
Bagnato says with the world economic slow-down, the town is shooting for a 2-3% property tax increase.
That means huge cuts for other departments including roads and recreation … in order to keep the tax hike down.
The Brockton mayor says without changing anything, the policing cost alone will hike taxes by 5% and that he says won’t happen.
Brockton budget talks are set for February 17th and 18th of next year.
