The new practice started yesterday.
Canada Post installed the new boxes at nine locations because there aren’t enough post office boxes because of the growing population.
Saugeen Shores Councillor Diane Huber says it’s good to see people are still using the postal service, but it’s sad the neighbourhood boxes mean an end to the days of the post office being a community hub.
Huber understands why the boxes are needed and realizes it will be more convenient now for some people to get their mail.
She says it’s sad though to see the “charm of the downtown post office” decline.
