Bruce County officials are hoping they’re now able to deal with any emergency situation that could hit the area.
Director of Emergency Services Doug Smith says they unveiled the county’s new Incident Command Trailer at the county officers in Walkerton on Thursday.
Smith says the trailer has been at some events already, like the IPM, but the recent unveiling was to showcase the mural that now adorns it.
The mural depicts disaster scenes that could happen in the county, such as ice storms, chemical spills, and large fires.
Smith says the trailer would be dispatched to those situations and to any type of incident that lasts an extended period of time.
Its communications equipment and living facilities would be able to support emergency workers at the scene for the duration of the incident.
While Smith says they hope never to face a large emergency in Bruce County, it’s all about being prepared.
He explains emergency preparedness is part of the county’s mandate for the maintenance of the essential level of emergency management.
The trailer will also be used as a teaching tool – Smith says it will be used as a public relations tool to show people how to be prepared for emergencies.
Funding for the 65-thousand dollar unit came from the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program, with the federal goverment chipping in 45 per cent of the cost.
