Friends of the Kincardine Hospital wants to create a business plan to show the hospital can operate on its own.
The group is hoping for support from the Local Health Integration Network and the Minister of Health.
The Friends want to create a new group of community members that would be prepared to serve as the hospital’s board if it becomes a stand alone facility.
Spokesperson Ian Mitchell says right now the community has now way of naming it’s representatives to the South Bruce Grey Health Centre Board.
The Tiverton and District Ratepayers Association is backing the Friends of the Hospital.
Vice President Ed Roberts likes the plan for a replacement hospital board.
He says it will make the transition easier when or if the hospital is allowed to leave the SBGHC.
A community meeting on the plans is scheduled for December 9th at the Davidson Centre.
Roberts says nothing will change if people don’t get involved.
He warns Kincardine Hospital will continue to lose services and become “just a first aid post.”
Council is encouraging the community to come up with a solution.
Councillor Ron Hewitt says it’s the job of residents, and not council to do most of the work.
Hewitt says he’s pleased Friends of the Hospital and the Tiverton Ratepayer’s are taking the initiative to get public input.
Council will revisit the hospital issue and what to do about it when it meets on December 3rd.
