Members of Kincardine’s Chamber of Commerce heard from someone whose company could cause major changes in the town’s retail landscape.
Joshua Kaufman, a Director of big box plaza developer Smart Centres spoke at the Chamber of Commerce annual meeting last night.
Smart Centres owns property next to the Sobeys on Highway 21.
Kaufman says they’re trying to get national chain retailers interested in building on the property.
But, he admits there is a slowdown in retail interest because of the economy.
Kaufman says Smart Centres wants to compliment the locally-owned business that already exist in downtown Kincardine.
Smart Centres has developed the new Wal-Mart site in Port Elgin, set to open in January.
Kaufman won’t say if Wal-Mart is a contender for Kincardine, but it “it’s not off the table.”
He says they’re trying to attract every retailer they can.
