The Festival of Colour has been launched at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery.
The Tom Thomson Art Gallery and the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library are presenting the Festival of Colour.
The exhibit launched with the Festival of Northern Lights and will be running until January 4th.
500 hand painted paper lanterns are on display at the Gallery Atrium and in the Carnegie Library.
Grade six students in Taoyuan County in Taiwan painted the lanterns to show the culture, values and lifestyle in their country.
Curator Stewart Reid says the children have painted images of rice fields, mountains, landscapes and traditional festivities on the globe shaped lanterns.
Reid credits Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners for bringing the exhibit to Owen Sound.
Mayor Lovell Stanners and himself were invited to the Waterloo Children’s Museum to view the exhibit.
Lovell felt the exhibit would be a great addition to the library and spoke with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to bring the lanterns to Owen Sound.
The Gallery is inviting locals to get creative and create their own lantern.
Free workshops will be held November 16th, December 6th and 21st from 1 to 3 pm.
Reid feels it’s a great “hands on” learning opportunity for families.
