Three men accused in the death of Owen Sound restaurant owner Sharif Rahman have made their first appearance in an Owen Sound courtroom via Zoom.
The men, who were extradited from Scotland, are charged in relation to Rahman’s death after an altercation over an unpaid bill at The Curry House that took place in August 2023.
Twenty-five-year-old Robert Evans is accused of manslaughter after allegedly landing a punch that led to Rahman suffering a serious injury, resulting in being airlifted to a London hospital. The business owner died from his injuries a week later.
His father, 47-year-old Robert Busby Evans, told the court that he didn’t need to have is charges read out to him. He’s accused of being an accessory after the fact, and was not in the restaurant at the time of the altercation. He will make his next court appearance on December 15th.
Meanwhile, 54-year-old Barry Evans, who is also charged with being an accessory after the fact, is schedule to appear in court on January 12th.
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Scottish police arrested 24-year-old Robert Evans and 47-year-old Robert Busby Evans in Edinburgh, Scotland. On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 54-year-old Barry Evans was arrested in Dalkeith, Scotland.
According to media sources, Crown prosecutors asked for a publication ban on any evidence heard at the bail hearings, and listed 11 people that were connected to the case that each man is not allowed to contact.
