The race between two giant pharmacy companies to open up their new Owen Sound Stores is coming down to the wire.
Work on the Downtown Shoppers Drug Mart continues and Rexall Pharmaplus is in the process of wrapping up construction on its East Side Owen Sound store.
Rexall Senior Vice President Paul Dale says they hope to hold the grand opening of the Pharmaplus around the middle of July.
He says while the exterior work and landscaping is completed, there is still a lot of interior work that has to be done.
Dale says the 11 thousand square foot store will see a private room for consultations with a pharmacist, wider aisles so people can get around the store easier, better lighting and a drive thru pharmacy.
He says this size also allows them to provide more product categories and a greater selection convenience categories including high demand convenience food products.
Dale also says the existing downtown location of Pharmaplus in Owen Sound will remain open so customers at that location will not have to make the trip up the east side hill to pick up their prescriptions.
Dale says the hours of operation for the new Owen Sound store have yet to be determined.
