Input from residents at three public meetings wasn’t totally in favour of the proposals presented, which include nautical and historical themes.
Community Services Director Mike Myatt says council and staff weren’t satisfied with the options either.
A committee is being set up to help reach a decision.
Myatt hopes they can agree on a design and present it to council in December.
Councillor Fred Schildroth says gateway signs are the first thing people see when they arrive in a community.
He wants to get the design right and not let the process drag on.
Schildroth says a decision is overdue and he wants to see the issue resolved.
