Co-ordinator of the Grey Bruce Eat and Learn Program Bev Gateman says a recent newspaper article that the program is not being used is inaccurate.
Gateman says the erroneous information came from a student trustee who may not have had all the facts.
She says roughly 65 to 70 students at Sacred Heart use the Breakfast Program on a daily basis.
Gateman says reports that the program is struggling financially are true.
She says currently the program is being run by a teacher who doesn’t have the time to fundraise.
Gateman says in many situation, parent volunteers take care of letter campaigns and other fundraising methods.
She says it takes 50-75 cents to feed a highschool student breakfast.
Gateman says the program is very important because high school students are notorious for not eating breakfast.
She says other have long bus rides to get to school and get hungry even when they do eat breakfast.
Gateman says students need a good breakfast in order to learn properly.
