There is a new Regional Information Co ordinator for OMAFRA in Grey Bruce and Dufferin counties.
Kelly Ward took up the position in late September and is working out of the Walkerton office.
She says her main task in this region is getting the word out to local farmers about just what programs are available from the Ministry to help them prosper in the Agricultural industry.
Ward says she also will spend a lot of time providing information and education materials that will help local producers understand the latest legislation coming from Queens park dealing with agricultural issues.
She also will be doing a lot of networking with farmers in the three counties to find out what issues they are concerned about and what they need in the way of informational and educational programs from the ministry.
Ward says local farmers tell her they are glad now that an information co ordinator is in place once again for this region after a bit of an absence.
Prior to this appointment, Ward worked for the Ministry coordinating publications about crops on the department website and helped co ordinate OMAFRA displays at area farm shows.
Her family still farms in the Owen Sound area, and she currently resides in Palmerston.
She can be reached by email at Kelly.L.Ward@ontario.ca or by phone at the Walkerton OMAFRA office.
