The shoes are telling a story.
There is a display at the Southampton Art School right now called The Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes.
The Executive Director of the Women’s House serving Bruce and Grey, Casey Weichert, says it’s a shoe memorial, honouring the women and their children who have been murdered in Ontario since 1995.
The bad news is there are over 300 pairs of shoes on display.
Each pair of shoes has a card attached to it, telling a story of the murdered victim.
Weichert says it’s all part of recognizing November as Woman Abuse Prevention month in the hopes of raising awareness about the violence against women.
She says the display is very powerful.
Weichert notes the shoes which are new, will be donated to various charities after the display has made its rounds.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes is at the Southampton Art School until Sunday (NOV 9), 10am to 4pm.
From November 12 to 16, the display is in Kincardine at the Scougall (SCOO-gull) Gallery on Queen Street, 10am to 4pm; November 17 to 21 at the Markdale Old Fire Hall, 9am to 4pm and November 24 to 28 at the Owen Sound Heritage Mall, 10am to 9pm.
