That is one recommendation that came from the recent Service Analysis session that city staff now will cost out and report back to council.
Councillor Bill Twaddle, who also is chair of the Waste Management Committee says considering at how effective the citys recycling programs are a lot of people are finding they donut have that much trash to put out every week.
He says the volume of garbage being collected is down substantially and that is something he and the workers on the trucks have noticed.
Twaddle says besides an obvious cost saving as far as fuel for the garbage trucks is concerned there would be additional savings on wear and tear on equipment and a reduced impact on the environment through less emissions.
He says by reducing pick up to just one truck with two workers from the current level of two trucks those additional workers could be transferred to other duties within the public works department.
Twaddle says Council expects to get a report back on the cost of twice a month garbage collection before the budget talks get under way in early December.
The city spends almost 600 thousand dollars on garbage collection and tipping fees every year.
