Members of Grey County Council could get a raise next year.
The Council Remuneration Committee presented a report yesterday detailing possible wage increases for Warden Kevin Eccles and members of County Council.
Chair Barry Lewin says the committee wants to change council’s wages, and the way members get paid.
The Committee has suggested an annual salary instead of a per diem amount for meetings and appearances.
But if a Councillor doesn’t show up to a meeting, they will be docked pay.
The Committee also felt a salary would be more appropriate as more time is spent outside chambers preparing for meetings.
If the motion is approved on November 25th, the Warden’s salary would increase to 45,850.00 a year, while members of County Council would earn $15,500.
In comparison to other municipalities the wage increase still puts Grey County falling behind.
Grey County is ranked 11th out of 13 municipalities for the lowest wages.
For example — municipalities in Kawartha Lakes, Elgin and Norfolk earned similar salaries to Grey County in 2005.
Lewin feels in order to attract new councillors to the area, they need to adjust salaries to reflect the Consumer Price Index.
