Mayor Gwen Gilbert confirms Dr. Shazia Ambreen has given her notice of termination from the Sauble Family Health Team.
Gilbert says council is supporting Dr. Ambreen and her family, but since legal advice is now being sought, she can’t comment further.
In July, Beach News told you that the Town of South Bruce Peninsula wanted an investigation of the Health Team, with concerns about the operations of the Team’s Board of Directors.
Council’s concern centres on how the VON elected the Chair of Vice Chair of the Board, despite Ministry advice not to go ahead with the elections.
Dr. Ambreen’s husband is the Health Team’s Executive Director, and he was terminated in July.
Also that month, a letter to the Ministry of Health from the town stated that Dr. Ambreen and her husband were provided with false information resulting in a substantial loss of revenue.
Gilbert says she is extremely disappointed that Dr. Ambreen has given her notice and that her departure will be devastating to the town.
She says Dr. Ambreen was a great asset to the community, and well respected by her peers for her abilities and professionalism.
In addition, she says this issue may make it more difficult to recruit new doctors to the health team.
Dr. Ambreen is not seeing patients at the clinic, but will continue to work in emerg at the hospital.
