Mike Smith says even though the Liberal plan won’t be complete until 2018, he’s always glad to see extra money being saved.
The provincial government says by taking back these costs, it will save municipalities about 1.5 billion dollars compared to last year.
Smith says seeing extra money is always a benefit to the County and especially to Saugeen Shores.
Smith says even though it would have been nice to see this happen earlier, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario went through a lengthy process to get this plan on track.
Specific to Saugeen Shores, Smith says downloading from Ontario Works will affect the entire County and they’ll be talking about that at council soon.
He says they also have costs in their budget for prisoner transport and they’ll have to wait until 2012 before those get taken back.
The province will also be taking back welfare costs that had been downloaded in the 1990’s.
