Are you prepared?
It’s Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4-10) and Canadian Red Cross Community Services Coordinator Stephanie Murray wants you to take a few minutes to get prepared.
On Soundingboard yesterday Murray says it’s a matter of getting some basic items you might need in an emergency or disaster and have them accessible to all in a dry spot.
She says a crank-up radio along with a flashlight are basic tools all kits would need.
Murray says any kit should allow a family to live for 72-hours without help or assistance from the outside.
She says that includes cash on hand because in an emergency power to banks could be shut down and ATM would be useless.
Murray says water and non-perishable food should be part of the kits for both the family and pets if you have them.
She says having a plan is the first important step in preparing for any type of disaster.
