A happy Halloween is a safe Halloween.
So says Sgt. Gary Dale of Saugeen Shores Police Services.
Sgt. Dale reminds both trick or treaters and motorists that it’s going to be a busy Friday night and safety rules need to be remembered.
Dale suggests children wear costumes that fit so they aren’t tripping over themselves.
He also prefers children to wear make-up paint on their faces rather than masks that can make it hard to see and difficult to breathe.
Dale says one of the most important messages to get across to children is that they are not to try the treats until they get home and mom or dad have a chance to inspect them.
He says there hasn’t been any problems in the area recently but it’s better to play it safe.
Dale says the message is the same to motorists as it is every year.
Kids will be kids and may forget the safety rules so motorists need to be extra vigilant Friday night.
In Saugeen Shores, Sgt. Dale says extra police patrols will be out on Halloween and there will be special volunteer citizen patrols as well, ready to report any unusual happenings to police.
