United Way of Bruce Grey is handing out over 22 thousand for youth programs.
United Way’s Rotary Children’s Fund has given twenty two thousand, six hundred and thirty dollars for youth and children’s programs in Bruce and Grey Counties.
Financial support for the fund came from Rotary’s Winterama event, Galaxy Cinema’s Starlight Film Festival and the United Way of Bruce Grey Board Fund.
The United Way received applications for more than 30 thousand dollars.
Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says they always want to do more, but the sources for funding are drying up.
Grey Bruce Eat & Learn received three thousand dollars to support sixty four meal programs at local schools.
Bev Gateman of Grey Bruce Eat & Learn says the funding will help provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to over 5 thousand hungry students.
The Women’s Centre Grey and Bruce received twenty five hundred dollars to purchase new cribs and mattresses as well as a Wii fit console.
The Grey Bruce Autism Chapter will receive three thousand dollars and the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey will receive over 25 hundred dollars.
The Children’s Aid Society of Owen Sound and Grey County are being funded almost two thousand dollars to purchase interactive learning tools like a Wii video game system at Hepworth Public School.
CAS Manager of Special Supports Debra Pope says these tools will help children struggling with behaviour and learning disorders to learn at their own pace.
G.R.A.C.E. has been given twenty five hundred dollars to purchase a new horse for the program.
Since the United Way Rotary Children’s Fund was created in 2006, they have given away almost 55 thousand dollars for child and youth programs throughout the region.
