After a recent engineering report came back to council telling them the 50 year old roof was not stable enough to hold a heavy load of snow, the municipality has made a few decisions.
Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig says they’ll install a row of about 10 posts down the middle of the arena to stabilize things until they can come up with a more permanent solution.
That of course means there will be no ice going in for hockey.
He says however they will try to get the curling club surface installed once the posts are in.
Local residents appear to want to save the old arena raising money and donating a thousand dollars from vendors fees at the Williamsford Farmers Market.
Mayor Greig says at this point they don’t know how much the posts will cost but the estimate has been in the 10 thousand dollar range.
A public meeting has been set for November 17th to find out what area residents want to do about making more permanent repairs to the roof.
Council has talked about building an entirely new complex that would serve both Williamsford and Chatsworth.
