OPSEU says it is going to fight layoff notices issued by the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Twenty Program Assistants and I-T personnel received working layoff notices last week but the health unit says many will be hired back under new job classifications.
OPSEU representative Ted Loughead says no one should have received notices until a labour adjustment plan was negotiated.
That is expected to happen early next month.
Loughead notes seventeen of 23 clerical staff have received layoff notices — the same workers who spent ten weeks on strike in the Spring.
He feels the notices are retribution for going on strike.
The Health Unit claims the move is part of the consolidation of two offices into one new building.
But Loughead says the workers have told him the workload hasn’t changed and there are no duplication of services.
Loughead adds OPSEU will also fight to represent the I-T workers who have received layoff notices.
