A tenative contract settlement has been reached between “First Student Laidlaw school Bus” (formerly Laidlaw Transit) and the CAW in Owen Sound.
President of CAW local 4268 Len Poirier says the deal was struck with the help of a mediator yesterday.
Some 60 bus drivers in the Owen Sound area will meet this coming Monday to vote on the tenative 3 year package.
Poirier says the bargaining executive is reviewing the deal and are ironing out some final kinks in the proposal from Laidlaw, but he expects the Union will recommend the drivers accept the offer.
The CAW workers have been without a deal since last September.
Poirier says if the tenative deal is voted down the workers could go on strike once they give the company 72 hours notice.
He is hopefull that won’t happen, and that the offer will be accepted by the workers.
