It was an emotional day in Goderich as triple-murderer Jesse Imeson made his final appearance at the Courthouse.
The gallery was filled with family and friends of Bill and Helene Regier who were murdered in their farmhouse on Bronson Line in Mt. Carmel.
A similar turnout came from Windsor-area man Carlos Rivera’s family.
Tears were shed throughout the courtroom as Crown Attorney Bob Morris went through the details of the murders.
Imeson seemed agitated at the beginning of the trial, before settling in and giving almost no expression through the readings of impact statements from Rivera’s family.
But when the statements from the Regier’s family began, Imeson seemed to look remorseful and apologetic, and had his lawyer read a statement apologizing to the Regier’s family.
Crown Attorney Bob Morris says Imeson would not plead guilty to the charges of first degree murder, but would plead guilty to second degree murder in all three charges through a joint submission.
Imeson received life in prison on all three counts, to be served at the same time in a jail outside of Ontario.
Daughter of Bill and Helene Carol Denomy says their work is not yet done, and they’ll remain hopeful and vigilant that Imeson won’t leave jail after 25 years.
Defense Attorney Don Crawford says after 15 years in jail, Imeson will have to go in front of a jury to see if he’ll be allowed to apply for parole.
After release, Imeson will also be prohibited from owning weapons and ammunition for the rest of his life.
