Residents in Georgian Bluffs will see a 2.6 per cent increase in taxes this year.
Council adopted the 2008 tax rates at last night’s meeting.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says that includes the county and education levies.
The total budget comes in at 3.96 million dollars… down 35 thousand dollars from last year.
Barfoot thanked the township’s new CAO, Bill White, for his work this year in putting the budget together – Barfoot says it gives them a better breakdown of where money is going to be spent, and he believes it’s going to be a better system to work with in years to come.
The capital spending has not all been finalized yet, the CAO will be able to update council on what money they have as they make decisions throughout the year.
Barfoot says the operation costs take up 44 per cent of the budget.
Fire protection makes up 12 per cent of the budget, and policing accounts for 18 per cent.
Barfoot says they also had some increases in the library budget.
Council is also looking at implementing garbage bag tags – something Barfoot says he’s in favour of.
He hopes council can come to a decision on the system within the next two months.
