Saugeen Shores Council agreed this week to use 20 thousand dollars from their allotted 721 thousand the Town received in provincial infrastructure funding towards phase two of the clinic.
The agreement would see Grant Diemert Architect Incorporated complete tender documents and proceed with the completion of an unfinished section of the interior.
Mayor Mike Smith says this is to get the designs ready in case the town is successful in recruiting more doctors.
He says the decision won’t necessarily mean work on the clinic will get done this year.
Smith says they are in discussions with a pair of doctors and the decision will lie on whether there is enough space at the clinic.
But Councillor Diane Huber raised a couple of concerns with the recommendation made by the Town’s Director of Engineering Services Dave Burnside.
Huber says there was an agreement in place earlier this year that any work on the clinic would not be done until they were able to acquire a new doctor.
Huber understands that the building needs to be finished and that it would be ideal to have the same architect perform the work.
She says ever since she has been on Council there have been cases where the tendering process was by-passed.
She has concerns about fairness and feels the process has not been fulfilled.
