South Bruce OPP are getting ready for their annual province-wide Canada Day week traffic safety initiative.
It starts Friday, June 27th and ends Sunday July 6th.
They say officers will be focusing on seatbelt use, distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, and other forms of unsafe driving that puts others at risk.
They will also be out patrolling on their boats and all-terrain-vehicles (ATV) to encourage safe boating and riding. Police say they will be checking that proper safety equipment is being used.
OPP note, seatbelt non-compliance can result in a fine of $240 and two demerit points.
Driving while using a hand-held communication device can result in a fine of $615 and 3 to 6 demerit points with increasing licence suspensions upon conviction.
OPP say, “The safety of our roadways are everyone’s responsibility, please do your part by abiding by the rules of the road, trails and waterways.”
