More affordable housing is almost a reality for the city of Owen Sound.
The province has kicked in an additional 148 thousand dollars to allow a new affordable housing complex to proceed.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell says due to higher than expected tenders, the project was about 300 thousand dollars over budget.
Lovell says Grey County was able to allocate some money to the project, but is thankful the province has stepped up with more funding.
Lovell says the Owen Sound Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation will construct the 47 unit building on the city’s east side, in the area of 20th street and 7th avenue east.
Lovell says construction can start as soon as all of the approvals are received.
Lovell says the demand for affordable housing is declining.
She says its encouraging to see the numbers on the waiting list decreasing.
