Last week the Saugeen Shores Community Improvement Plan Committee held an open house meeting to find out public opinion of the downtown.
About 30 people showed up to offer concerns, and suggestions.
Councillor Luke Charbonneu says access, accessible parking, and finding parking are big public concerns.
He says traffic noise, truck traffic and trouble crossing Goderich Street are also concerns.
Charbonneau says they are currently trying to get an idea of what needs to be changed in Port Elgin, as the community grows.
He says with the addition of Wal-Mart, comes more traffic, so they need to address issues to keep people in town shopping at both ends.
Charbonneau says they still have a few stakeholder meetings to carry out, as they continue to gather information and thoughts.
Another public meeting will be held once all of the data has been collected and the Committee has come up with ideas to fix concerns.
He says they are not going to rush the process, but does hope things can move swiftly.
Ideas and concerns can still be sent in to www.saugeenshorescommunityplan.com.
